Project Clean Plate your Plate every day!
We need your help to reduce waste with Project Clean Plate. The goal is to bring back clean plates at The 459 Commons and Highland Dining Hall. For every 10% reduction in waste we achieve, LSU Dining will make a donation to the GBR Food Bank and feature some cool prize giveaways, too! Watch our progress and look for ways YOU can assist with our campus sustainability efforts! Thanks for your help in making this a continuous effort at LSU!
LOVE FOOD, HATE WASTE!!
Here are some things you can do:
- Exercise portion control.
- Ask for a sample if you are unsure.
- Eat with your stomach, not with your eyes. You may always go back!
- The correct protein portion size for one meal is 3oz. That is the size of a deck of cards.
- For added taste, use condiments found around the servery.
- Don't get dessert until you have finished.
- It takes 20 minutes for your brain to know you are full, so let your food digest before you get more.
According to the USDA, Americans waste almost 25% of all food produced in the US each year.
We have already gone trayless to conserve water and energy and reduce chemicals. We also recycle our used cooking oil into biodiesel fuel. Not to mention the fact that The 459 Commons was renovated with "green" initiatives in place. We all need to do our part!!
